I resently responded to some of our members having new childeren.....

It was not my intent to make anyone feel sorry for me because of what happened to me and my son!!!!

I was a military member...that means you are owened by Uncle Sam.  You do what is required to accomplish the "MISSION".  Sometimes that means not being with your family..in most cases we didn't see our families for 12-15 months.  Remember...I am a Vietnam War vet.

I think what I was trying to say...was...I don't think I said I LOVE YOU enough.

This is not the place for this and I will leave this board if you so request.

Jim

Jim,
There are a lot of vets on this board, none of whom have not had issues with their spouses and children due to their absences.  I am one of them, and for the most part, I think my children understood.  Two out of three of them have joined the military for at least on tour.  Plus, they're always here every weekend for what what I'm cooking.  I have the strongest belief that this board is non judgmental.  You have no need to apologize, please relax and keep posting, your Bubba Brothers are just that, your brother in kindred spirit.

Gotta agree with JD, it's really no big thing. I've been around military folks a while and I truly respect all the sacrifices they've made.

Jim,
I can't accept your apology because I don't think you owe me one. You're on my list of the good guys here...the really good ones.  Stick around, please.  Wink

Jim,
In my opinion, this forum is basically a common interest forum, that interest being bkg/bsk, grilling, smoking, etc... That being said, without the personalities and people nobody would want to visit on a regular basis. I greatly appreciated your advice and words of wisdom based on your experience and I'm sure many others did as well. I'm willing to bet some of us will take your advice to heart and it may very well make us a better parent for it. So, please hang around.

Razor,
You are not going anyplace I should hope.

This place is for cooking on the Keg, yes, but I think it goes beyond that.  Sharing experiences and learning about many things is part of having a group like this get along as well as we all do.

I am signed in at work (big no no) to write this as I think it is important.

Jim, don't even think for one second that you owe anyone here an apology. Once in awhile we all have one of those moments where we feel we owe an apology for something we did. This is not one of them. I am sorry for you for what happened between you and your son but, as far as anything being owed here, it's us who owe you for these types of sacrifices you and so many others make and have made on a daily basis. The gratitude for these sacrifices should be never ending. I don't think we said Thank You enough. I bet you are one helluva nice guy. Hang in there and if you need someone to talk to, I think the most of us would gladly listen.

Being away from family is very difficult.  I had to rethink my occupation (away from home every week as a consultant) when my son was born. I was lucky enough to have options.  I will never regret my choice and the time it allowed me to spend watching my son grow up, coaching his hockey and baseball teams.  I feel for those parents who do not have this opportunity.  Only problem is the son will now not leave home.  At least I get the chance to frequently grill and share a beer with him until he decides what he wants to do with his life.  And I don't think we say this enough.....a big thanks to all of those who serve or have served in the military.  I cherish my father's purple heart and sometimes get so ticked when I see CEO's pulling in millions and millions of dollars, not always legitimately, yet my father had to PAY extra for his wounded Vet license plate.

Jim, a lot of us here, it sounds like are ex-military, myself included.  I know exactly what you mean about how hard it is on families and relationships.  We are friends here, brought together by our love for BBQ and Bubba Kegs.  Don't feel bad about anything you shared, if someone was put off by that, that is thier problem.  We share a lot on this board and it would be sad to see you go over this.  Keep posting brother--I for one really enjoy your posts!

as they say in California:

Dude quit trippin.
You're fine.

I think we all come here because we find something unique and human, in some ways many of us are lonely and are looking for camaraderie
